The annual Plane Pull event organised by Orbis was held at Shannon Airport on September 13th 2014. The aircraft this year was a B767 with fuel on board, weighing in at 110(ish) tonne (last year the weight was about 85 tonne). Each team is made up of 25 members with two attempts to move the aircraft 3 meters in the quickest time. The CAE Parc Aviation team got a good work-out airside and all funds raised by our team will go to the Orbis charity.
Orbis Ireland is focused on eliminating a blinding and life destroying eye disease – trachoma – from some of the poorest regions in southern Ethiopia. In Ethiopia it costs just €6 to conduct a sight saving surgery to reverse the effects of trachoma; 15 cent to distribute an antibiotic to treat the infection and €400 to provide clean water to 100 families so the disease is prevented. Orbis equip and fly specially modified flying hospitals to these remote regions bringing world class care to those who need it most.
